Magic Mushroom Strains Ranked: From Mildest to Most Potent
Ask five shops what separates one cultivar from another and you will get five answers, most of them borrowed. What follows is our attempt to write down only the parts that can be measured, and to be honest about the parts that cannot.
Genetics set the ceiling, not the result
A cultivar is a genetic line, and the line sets the range a fruit can land in. What it does not set is where inside that range a particular tray ends up. Substrate, humidity, the timing of the flush and how hard the room was pushed all move the result — sometimes further than the difference between two named lines.
This is why we grade and assay by lot rather than publishing one number per cultivar. The name on the label tells you the line. The batch code tells you what actually came out of the room.
A rough ranking, mildest first
- Golden Teacher — the reference point almost everyone starts from. Mild, slow, forgiving of a small error in weighing.
- B+ — close to Golden Teacher in strength, noticeably more consistent tray to tray, which is why it turns up in so many measured formats.
- Amazonian — a step up, and a step longer. Plan for the extra two hours rather than being surprised by them.
- Blue Meanie — dense, fast and stronger than its size suggests. This is where eyeballing a portion starts to go wrong.
- Penis Envy — the outlier. Thick-walled, slow-growing, and routinely two to three times the potency of a Golden Teacher by weight.
Treat that order as a tendency, not a table. Two lots of the same cultivar can swap places.
Density is the honest signal
The most reliable thing you can observe without a laboratory is density. Slow, thick-walled lines — the Penis Envy family above all — weigh far more per unit of volume than fast, tall ones. Two jars that look identical can differ by a factor of two on the scale.
Weigh, do not eyeball. Volume is the single most common way people misjudge a serving.
What a fixed measure buys you
It is exactly this variability that our capsule line exists to remove. A bottle is filled from one milled lot at a fixed weight, so the twenty-fourth capsule matches the first. You give up the romance of the whole fruit and you get back the ability to repeat yourself.
- One lot milled per fill run
- Weight-checked in batches through the run
- Vegetarian shell, lot code on the base of the bottle
- Assay filed against that lot code
Where to start
If you have no reference point, start with a measured format rather than a graded one, and record what you took and how it landed. Two entries in a notebook are worth more than any strain guide, including this one.
Nothing here is medical advice. Psilocybin is a controlled substance in Germany and across most of the EU; know the law where you live before you order anything.
